Biography

Ashley Mason is a Beaver through and through. She is passionate about bridging academia and industry, fostering connections, and inspiring students to uncover the heart of their own interests in engineering.

While working toward undergraduate and graduate degrees at Oregon State, Mason found herself drawn to electrical engineering and materials science through classes, research, and hands-on internships.

Mason credits this appreciation for innovation to faculty members who encouraged creativity and connected students with industry sponsors — a major contribution to her decade-long career with HP in Corvallis developing processes and integrating materials for use in core-print, 3D printing, and microfluidic applications.

“With new products, designs, and processes, there are many challenges that we encounter as engineers,” Mason said of working in the field of integration. “Figuring out how these elements are intertwined helps us create devices that are manufacturable while also delivering performance.”

Mason approaches her work and life with a combination of curiosity and diligence. In addition to her role at HP, Mason currently serves as a Chapter Vice President for the Experimental Aircraft Association and is a Willamette Innovators Network Board Member.

“Blending academic and applied experiences, while balancing research and technology development, helped form the way that I approach engineering: as a science and an art,” Mason said.
